Webinar:
Using BOXCAR to Design Precast Box Culverts
Time: 1:00 PM, CST
Please email LaHonda Holle at lahonda@concrete-pipe.org to register for the webinars.
Description:
Along with AASHTO’s deadline for implementing LRFD the ACPA has also updated BOXCAR (Box Culvert Analysis and Reinforcing Design) to include LRFD design, as well as the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CHBDC) for designing precast box culverts. BOXCAR is an interactive program initially developed cooperatively by ACPA, FHWA, and SG&H that can be used for the structural analysis and design of precast reinforced concrete box sections.
This webinar will discuss the newest version of BOXCAR and walk through a precast box culvert design using BOXCAR and the steps of:
-
Compute and apply loads to the structure
-
Complete a structural analysis
-
Design reinforcing to carry the resulting moments, thrusts and shears.
BOXCAR provides complete structural analysis for loads due to box weight, soil weight, internal fluid weight, live loads and user specified surcharge loads.
Josh Beakley, ACPA’s Director of Technical Services, and Secretary of the AASHTO Rigid Culvert Liaison Committee will be presenting the information. Josh Beakley has been employed by the American Concrete Pipe Association for over 16 years and has been involved in some of the research and technical reviews behind the LRFD requirements.
