Silica Task Group Meeting: On Oct. 3, Bruce Hottle of Eagle Concrete Products, a member of our Government Relations Committee, will attend OSHA's 2nd Silica Task Group Meeting. Cy Malloy secured an appointment for Bruce to be a member on OSHA's Silica Stakeholders Advisory Committee. Bruce also attended the first silica meeting on Sept. 15, 1999. OSHA reps will claim that exposure to crystalline silica can occur in the following construction activities: chipping, hammering, and drilling in rock or concrete or brick; crushing, loading, hauling, and dumping of rock and concrete; abrasive blasting using silica sand or from the materials being blasted (concrete); sawing, hammering, drilling, grinding, and/or chipping on masonry or concrete; demolition of brick, concrete, or masonry; dry sweeping concrete, sand, or rock dust; trenching and excavation; and, tile and grout work.Federal/ACPA Seminar: On October 3, your Government Relations Committee (GRC) has scheduled a "Flexible v. Rigid Pipe" seminar in a conference room at the U. S. DOT Building for top federal engineers of various agencies.
